So this is my first post for Live Journal!
So today I went to a practice physical testing for the Sheriffs Office in my area. I had to perform three tests:
1) I had to climb over a 6 ft. wall.
2) I had to run a determined length in less than one minute.
3) I had to carry a 165 lb. Dummy to a specific spot in less than one minute.
I could not get over that dang wall. I don’t know if my body was still too weak (I have three PE classes at San Jose State twice a week: Weight Training, Jogging, and Beginning Karate. All of these classes are on the same day with Karate only once a week). Or if I just didn’t have the upper body strength to do so. I weigh over 200 lbs which is way over my supposed to be body weight. One of the Officers informed me that he believed I could get over the wall if I had worn shoes with better traction for that particular wall (it didn’t help that it was raining either). So I plan on going next week when I have time just to see if other shoes would help. The fact remains though that I either have to lose some weight or gain more upper body strength (actually I really need to do both).
The recruiter seemed happy that I was getting my bachelors degree in Justice Studies and when I asked about an internship (it is required for graduation) he told me that they did not have one at the moment but Volunteer work may in fact work as well.
What was really neat though was that I discovered that my local Comic dealer knows the Recruiter and is also considering a career in the Sheriff’s department. I got some new comics today specifically the final G.I. Joe & Transformers The Art of War and Super-Skrull Annihilation the entire 4-part series. Both were a good read but I am still waiting for the Ultimates # 12 and Civil War # 4 to come out.
I have also decided that I plan on ditching school next week in order to go with Alisha to visit her father, James and Kelly and her husband (also named James) near Portland. Alisha’s father is going to take us to a Indian casino which should be fun, since I won like 300 at the roulette table last time we went with him.
I am really excited about assisting Dylan run the Firefly LARP. I am also thrilled that I Lorie is going to make the game for us. Working on the Cyberpunk LARP I have a great understanding on how difficult making a LARP can be. I hope this will give me some experience for when I run not only the Cyberpunk LARP Alisha and I are working on but also a Cybergeneration LARP for teenager at Kublacon 2006.
I plan on writing about how Dundracon went but it will be lengthy so for now I leave you with my first LJ
